The "Minimalist Period"

I spent a lot of time making tricolor prints in the '90s, and by the end of the decade I was bored with that process and decided to go back to printing monochrome. At the same time, I got fascinated with the problem of how to print very smooth subtle tonal gradation in highlights, or in high-key images. These interests were accelerated after September 11, 2001, which had the effect on me of making me want to eschew every hint of violence in my life, in my thoughts and in my work, and contrast symbolized violence for me, in a way that would be more appropriate to explain in an artists statement than on a site dedicated to process, so I'll spare you the explanation. This period lasted until 2004 or so.
